Milwaukee Nightlife - Milwaukee Sports Bars

Maybe the best thing about Milwaukee's bar scene is the ardent love for sports bars. Even if you're not a sports fan, these places are the perfect home base. Unlike bigger, rowdier cities where the sports bars are flat out dangerous sometimes, Milwaukee's sports bars are some of the friendliest, coolest destinations for anyone who loves cheap beer, deliciously greasy bar food, amicable bartenders and a good game on the big screen. Some places are more sports oriented then others; while game-loving Hooligan's has 12 TVs strewn about and not a bad seat or unenthusiastic patron in the house, Nomad World Pub is home to a mellower breed of sports fan, the kind that likes to have conversations with friends while the soccer game is on in the background.

Nomad World Pub

1401 E Brady St., Milwaukee Wisconsin; Tel. 414.224.8111
For those who prefer their scene hip and casual, the Nomad offers an eclectic spot to avoid the more high-powered movers and shakers. Not to say the bar is quiet; Milwaukee's Nomad World Pub is small, smoky and often bustling with an assortment of people. Nomad appeals to the young, intelligent and worldly, so the only football on TV there is the kind with Euro mullets, penalty kicks and a decided lack of hitting. A coffeehouse by day and pub by night, the Nomad features a large and diverse drink menu with prices to keep you coming back.

Kelly's Bleachers

5218 W Bluemound Rd., Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tel. 414.258.9837
Kelly's Bleachers is to Milwaukee sports bars what McDonald's fries are to fast food, the essence of the genre. Happy hour offerings are standard bar fare and won't surprise anyone: free pizza samples, $0.20 wings and $2.25 Miller High Life, depending on the day. The crowd is more college student than geriatric, a fact reflected by the inclusion of a dance floor with standard issue fog machine and lights in the rear room. Kelly's Bleachers is pretty bread-and-butter, but set apart by the loyal clientele and dedicated ownership. If you like your beer cheap, music loud and crowds huge, then Kelly's is the ideal Milwaukee nightlife spot.

McGillycuddy's

1135 N. Water Street; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tel. 414.278.8888
Located in the heart of Milwaukee's entertainment area on North Water Street, McGillycuddy's is the perfect place to watch the game on one of their 25 TVs. Keep an eye out for food and drink specials when the Packers play, or during pretty much any sporting event. The food menu includes all the bar favorites you'd expect: chicken wings, mozzarella sticks and potato skins. This being an Irish bar, though, a large selection of Irish specialties is available including Guinness onion soup and Gilly's famous Irish stew. Bands sometimes play at McGIllycuddy's, adding to the appeal of this always exciting Milwaukee bar.

Hooligan's

2017 E. N. Ave., Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Tel. 414.273.5230
Hooligan's is a hodgepodge of all the best elements of Milwaukee bars. It could be called a college bar, live music venue, neighborhood bar, pub or sports bar. This "super bar" usually has about 20 beers on tap, including Leinie's Honey Weiss, John Courage, Eastside Dark and various other microbrews. During happy hour, many appetizers are just $2.99 and drinks are also discounted. TVs line the bar, making this one of the best places for true fans to cheer the team on during away games or when paying $7 for a stadium beer doesn't sound appealing.
